Introduction
"TMA" AC Motor Start Capacitor are manufactured by using etched and formed super purity Aluminium Foils, separating anode and cathode by special low density tissue paper to hold enough electrolyte and absorbent and supported by sandwiched duplex papers. The capacitor element is sealed into an Aluminium can to prevent it from atmospheric moisture and dust. These Capacitors are fully insulated by means of PVC Sleeve and again into an outer can for added safety towards electrical hazards. The flexible termination of suitable length is taken out.

Electrolytic Capacitors
"TMA" also manufacture "DC" Electrolytic capacitors - "CACT Approved" in the following Grade :

  • Professional Grade (SPG) capacitors are made with multiple anode and cathode Tab terminal to achieve low ESR, low impedence and inductance. These capacitors are screw type terminal and especially used in UPS, Industrial control equipments, communication equipments, computers, Heavy duty invertors, Battery chargers, Energy storage Application, Defence application, etc.
  • Industrial Grade (SIG) capacitors are made with compact size in lug type terminal ideal for mounting directly on the PCB without any need for a separate clamp. These capacitors are especially used in SMPS, UPS, Computer, Entertainment Electronic circuits, etc.
  • Non Polar Grade (SNP) capacitors are designed for withstanding internal vibration stresses and are provided with phenolic moulded Bakelite cans and Bakelite Disc with screw terminal and used where the polarity is unknown. These capacitors are especially used in Diesel Electric Locomotive application, DC welding machines, Thyristor control equipment, Defence equipments, etc.

  • Capacitance range = 2MFD to 100MFD
  • Capacitance tolerance = ± 5% or ± 10%
  • Roted voltage / frequency = 250 VAC at 50 Hz
  • Temperature range = - 40 °C TO + 85 °C
  • Dissipation factor = 0.02 to 0.1
  • Insulation resistance = more than 3000 mega ohms per MFD at 500V DC
  • Container = aluminum or polypropylene.
  • Shelf life = 5 years in original packing at 25 °C.
  • Test voltage = 1.75 times rates voltage between terminals for 10 sec.
  • Application = FHP motors, air-conditioners,pumps,washing machine, fans CTVs,UPS

Temperature Range
-30° C to +70° C
If the capacitor operates at a higher temperature the life of the capacitor will be reduced.

The applied voltage of the system should not be more than the rated voltage.

Capacitor & Power Factor
The capacitance & power factor of a motor start capacitor can be calculated by the current measurement within 3 seconds after application of the rated voltage.

Capacitance 'C' in µF = I*106 / TTFV
% Power factor = % PF =P*10 / VI

Where,

C = capacitance µF
V = applied voltage in voltage.
PF = power factor
I = current in Amperes
P = power in watts
F = frequency in cycle / second.

Capacitance will be within specified limits of maximum & minimum values ie. 80/100µF. Capacitor will have a capacitance between 80 & 100µF. The power factor shall not exceed 10% at 50 c/s & rated voltage at 20 °C.

Duty Cycle
Capacitance are suitable for duty cycle at 20 starts per hour maximum, each start of not more than 3 seconds duration at the rated voltage.


Shelf Life
Can be stored for one year without damage. capacitors should be recharged by applying rated voltage for 2/3 seconds .This may be repeated three times.


Voltage Test to Case
2000 VAC between condenser leads & case.
